Further Information

What is presented in the API is everything that is both currently active or very recently closed and has been confirmed. Unconfirmed items are unavailable to be viewed.

Items are automatically added to the UTMC database from various sources, including Highways England NTIS, Elgin Roadworks & Osprey Bridge (Durham). These data adaptors used to collate roadwork, incident, and accident information.

UTMC staff also manually input items from other sources, including on a live basis when incidents occur by liaising with police for accident or emergency information, local authorities, venues, contractors, members of the public etc. Any events (such as sporting events to parades) that have a traffic impact are manually input into the database along with information about how they will impact traffic.

Roadworks that are likely to have a major impact on traffic, for example if they require lane closures or temporary traffic lights on critical parts of the network, are duplicated both as incidents and roadworks.  The reason for this is at anyone time there is normally over 3000 roadworks logged on the system. The vast majority of these are minor works on residential roads, in order to highlight the important works they are flagged as planned incidents.

A list of the Traffic Type Descriptions can be found here.

Full information on the content of these feeds can be found in the API document located here.
